Day 747

My normal no workout day and I went to dinner with friends.  Let my pig out attitude get out of hand but still didn't let it be a set back.

Breakfast: Bran cereal with chia seeds, blue berries, and a banana.  Also a slice of toast.  20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Ground turkey wrap with stir fry broccoli and cauliflower with guacamole.  Also a tortilla with peanut butter.

Dinner: With friends went for sushi.  Ate way too much.  Also had an adult beverage.

So the social aspect caught me again.  I've now read about social situations causing you to over eat.  Frankly I didn't even notice how much I was eating until I started to feel over full.  By then it was too late, the damage was done.  So I had some more (no really I did).

Good thing I plan on going for a long walk tomorrow.  Hopefully I can burn off some of these calories.

Day 746

Met with L after work.  We went over what sort of exercises we'd focus on for the next few weeks and it's almost like starting from scratch.  I also had an appointment with my new doctor and we discussed doing a sleep study to determine where I was with sleep apnea.

Breakfast: Frittata with 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Ground turkey wrap with stir fried broccoli and cauliflower with guacamole.

Dinner: Stir fry broccoli and cauliflower with veggie chix strips.  Also a protein drink smoothie.

So the workout was core and some arms.  We did bird dogs, supermans, and biceps curls sitting on an exercise ball with bands.  For now we want to stay away from stressing the surgery area.  So by doing some core that helps strengthen the area affected by the surgery.  Then working the biceps helps to start the strength process up again.  I've not done any strength workouts since before the surgery so starting slow is the idea.

It really felt great to be back with L. She has great ideas for workouts and I have confidence in her to help create the right workouts for my situation.

Day 745

One day to go before meeting up with L.  Can't wait as I've really missed working with her, plus she makes it fun.

Breakfast: Frittata and a banana.  20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Turkey burrito with broccoli, cauliflower, and guacamole. Still hungry so made a small corn tortilla with turkey and guacamole.

Dinner: After the walk (hour and fifteen) I had the stir fry broccoli and cauliflower.  This time I added sausage.  Plus a protein drink.  Still hungry though so had a single serving of the chicken salad.

So walked up hill and down for an hour and fifteen minutes.  Prepping for tomorrow's meeting with L.

Day 744

After work I met a friend and we did a walk of an hour and fifteen minutes.  Felt good to get out and get some exercise.

Breakfast: Frittata and a slice of rye toast.  20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Ground turkey with mixed peppers wrap.  Had some stir fried broccoli and cauliflower along with some guacamole to finish the wrap off.

2nd snack: Dried apples and caramel syrup

Dinner: Chicken salad sandwich and a granola bar.  A protein drink and some nuts.

So the walk was good.  Some up hill and down hill so a nice mix.  Gotta keep the exercise going.

Day 743

Start of a new work week.  Three day weekend coming up and I will be trying to get some exercise.  Also have an appointment with the doctor and a session with L.  The session will be the first since the operation.

Breakfast: Frittata and 20oz of cold water.

Lunch: Met a friend for lunch and we had Mexican.

Dinner: Broccoli stir fry and a protein drink.

Plans for tomorrow night will be a walking workout.

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Day 742

Not feeling any issues from yesterday.  That is a good sign that my recovery is on track and good to go.  Now I just need to get back in the gym.  That's still a few weeks away though.

Breakfast: Bowl of bran cereal and chia seeds.  20oz of cold water.

Lunch: Spicy lentil wrap with chips and guacamole.

Snack: Bowl of fruit and roasted pecans.

Dinner: Stir fry broccoli and cauliflower with ground turkey.  Protein drink and roasted pecans.

Went for a 30min walk.

Day 741

Weighed in at 230lbs.  Still thinking I'll gain weight during this rehab but I guess I'm finally getting it when it comes to the eating thing?

Breakfast: Oatmeal with blue berries, chia seeds, and a banana.  20oz of cold water.

Snack while working on the trail cleanup: Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Lunch: One fish taco and some rice and beans plus chips.

Afternoon snack: Smoothie

Dinner: Another fish taco and the rest of the rice & beans.

Late nite snack: Peanut butter and guacamole sandwich.

So I helped a group of people cleanup and repair a mountain bike trail.  Spent three hours raking and sweeping along with digging some drain channels.  The weather was nice not too hot and definitely no rain.  Good way for me to see if I had any issues from the surgery.

Monday, May 19, 2014

Day 740

Saturday.  Spent two hours or so working outside on a mountain bike trail.  Getting it ready for riders.  Digging some drainage and clearing some debris.  Felt good to get out and do something constructive.

Breakfast: Oatmeal with blue berries, chia seeds, and a banana.  20oz of cold water.

Mid morning snack: Three mini PBJ sandwiches

Lunch: One fish taco and beans with rice and chips.

Afternoon snack: Smoothie

Dinner: Another fish taco and the rest of the beans and rice.

Late night snack: Peanut butter and guacamole sandwich.

Day 739

Okay the end of the work week and tomorrow I'm helping work on a mountain bike trail.  So will be getting some exercise beyond just walking.

Breakfast: Bran flake cereal with blue berries and a banana.  Also a slice of toast (whole grain) with peanut butter.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Torta.  Mexican sub sandwich.

Dinner: Spinach salad with cauliflower, veggie chix strips, salsa, guacamole, and tomato.

Late night snack: Two corn tortillas with peanut butter and guacamole.

Day 738

Again no walking today but probably should have.  Felt hunger today and it sent me off track.

Breakfast: Frittata and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Two tacos with veggie burger, guacamole, and salsa.

Dinner: Here's where it all went wrong.  Actually really enjoyed the two pieces of pizza and two big chocolate chip cookies.  What can I say?  Sometimes you just have to go with it and get back to it tomorrow.

Day 737

Okay no walking today.

Breakfast: Frittata and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Did it again, but only one dinner roll with peanut butter this time.  Of course there were still Oreo cookies so I had four.  Two tacos with veggie burger, guacamole, and salsa with some spinach.

Dinner: Stir fry cauliflower, broccoli, and a sausage.

Day 736

Went for a 30min walk after work.

Breakfast: Frittata and a slice of whole wheat toast.  20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Two tacos with veggie burger, guacamole, and salsa.  Then went crazy and had two dinner rolls with peanut butter ( they were just sitting there and I couldn't resist.  Not really I couldn't, it was pathetic).  Five Oreo cookies.

Dinner: Bowl of bran flake cereal with protein drink, chia seeds, blue berries, and a banana.  A power dinner consisting of breakfast.

Day 735

Start of a new week.  Actually week three on the re-hab and I did a 40min walk after work.

Breakfast: Frittata with 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Two tacos with a veggie burger, guacamole, and salsa.

Dinner: Broccoli stir fried, slice of rye bread with peanut butter, and four Oreo cookies.

Day 734

Breakfast: Oatmeal and 20oz of cold water.

Lunch: Pot sticker soup with quinoa and fish.

Mid afternoon: Two tacos with a veggie burger split between them.

Dinner: Mexicali salad from TJ's and a bowl of bran flakes cereal w/almond milk.

Did a walk that lasted almost an hour.  So getting some exercise.  Man I miss the gym!

Day 733

Wow just realized I've really fallen behind on writing these.  So guess I'll have to get into brief mode and crank out a bunch.

Weigh in was a surprise as I weighed in at 228lbs.  Surprise!  Lost 2lbs.  Crazy.

Breakfast: Oatmeal with blue berries and a slice of rye toast with peanut butter.  20oz of cold water.

Lunch: Bacon cheeseburger with curly fries.

Dinner: Finished off the Thai food from last night and snacked on some almonds.

Sunday, May 11, 2014

Day 732

So the challenge today is: going out to dinner with friends.

Breakfast: Frittata with cottage cheese and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Four street tacos,  That seems like a lot but these tacos are basically 3" round with meat and some onion and cilantro.  Put some hot sauce on and you're good to go.  Very minimalistic but very tasty.

Dinner: Thai.  I tried to be good so no Pad Thai (noodles bad) and went for a meat (shrimp) and veggie dish with brown rice.  Of course I also had some deep fried won ton with crab and cream cheese appetizers.  Otherwise I was good and I didn't eat it all.  Saved some for the next day.

Got to see L today and we are making a plan for our next training.  Next week is the third week of recovery and I can start doing some easy workouts.  I can't wait as I miss our get togethers.

Day 731

Didn't go for a walk like I should.   It was raining and I'm just not that motivated.  That's going to change though I would imagine once I get through this re-hab.

Breakfast: Frittata with cottage cheese and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Spinach salad with cod, tomato, quinoa, cheese, cauliflower, and salsa for dressing.

Dinner: Fish sandwich with egg and cheese.

So I'll need to try and get out this weekend and go for a walk.  It's only a walk but that's better than sitting around doing nothing.  Which is what I've been doing lately.  I will be curious as to the weigh in on Sat.  I wonder if I've gained any weight and if so it won't surprise me at all.

Day 730

Breakfast: Frittata with a slice of rye bread and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Spinach salad with fish, cauliflower, tomato, avocado, cheese, red pepper, and salsa for dressing.

Dinner: Vietnamese sandwich with sweet potato fries, ice tea drink, and almonds.

So was hungry for some thing different at dinner and went out.  I'm noticing that it's fairly easy to justify not being healthy when I'm not working out.  Interesting observation.

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Day 729

Another day of no workouts but I did go for a walk after work.  A 30min walk.  That's my goal for now.  A 30min walk as often as I can.

Breakfast: Frittata with cottage cheese and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Work bought lunch today so from a local sandwich shop I had a "gourmet" turkey sandwich.  Not bad.

Dinner: Stir fry broccoli, cauliflower, and corn with some cottage cheese.  Protein drink and almonds.

Day 728

Okay I planned on going for a walk on the weekend and I failed at that.  Just ended up sitting around watching movies and playing video games.  Granted I did get outside for a while on both days but nothing like an actual workout.
I can't work out so I'm just trying in any way to be active.  Maybe I'm being too hard on myself but considering what my activity level has been up to this point it's not surprising that I'm feeling the scorn of my inner voice.
Just another week to go and I can at least head to the gym and meet with L for an easy workout?

Breakfast: Frittata with cottage cheese and a slice of dense rye bread.  20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Spinach salad with cauliflower, red pepper, tomato, avocado, cheese, quinoa, and a piece of cod.

Dinner: Hamburger with an egg.  Added spinach and avocado on two slices of multi grain bread.

You may have noticed the addition of bread to the meals.  One of the things these doctor visits have found is I need more fiber in my diet.  So I went to a local bakery and bought a couple of loaves of healthy (?) bread to see if that will help.  At least the stuff tastes great.

Sunday, May 4, 2014

Day 727

I will be so glad once this recovery time is done.  I really want to go to the gym and workout.  It feels really weird to not have that in my schedule.  Of course I know that this is for the best and in the long run I'll be much healthier for it.
Today was interesting in that I was quite hungry between breakfast and lunch.  Not sure why?

Breakfast: Oatmeal and blue berries along with a slice of dense rye bread.

Mid morning snack: This was after going to the grocery store for my weekly shopping excursion.  I had an apple fritter.

Lunch: Cauliflower salad, pasta Greek salad, and sushi.  Finally felt like I was satisfied with this meal.

Dinner: Mexicali salad with a peanut butter and cheese sandwich.

Wow this morning I could really say I was quite hungry even after I ate the oatmeal, which is supposed to fill you up.  I actually ate the lunch items over a period of an hour as I was trying to satisfy the hunger I was feeling.  Which I haven't felt in a while.  Normally I don't have that problem as I try to nip it in the bud before it becomes a pig out.  This time it was very close to a pig out but the sushi really hit the spot.
Now I just have to get started walking again.

Day 726

Today I planned on getting in a good walk but the weather was just too crummy.  I did get out of the condo though and did walk a bit while shopping.

Breakfast: Had a three egg scramble with veggie.

Lunch: Turkey pesto sandwich with double meat and a rice crispy treat made gluten free.

Afternoon snack: Almonds

Dinner: Fish burger with an egg.

Late night snack: almonds

So I weighed in this morning and I'm still at 230lbs.  So that's good.  I will try to stay under control for the next few weeks though.  I expect to get back to my evening protocol of protein drinks and stir fry broccoli and cauliflower for dinner.
I also plan on doing more walking during the week.  I'm shooting for every day at least 20-30min just to keep my hand in.

Day 725

Just a food entry for this day.

Breakfast: Oatmeal with a banana and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Four street tacos from the street taco truck restaurant.

Dinner: Stir fry with a sausage, mixed veggie, broccoli, and three eggs.

Late night snack: almonds.

No exercise today but I'll get some this weekend.

Day 724

New day and feeling great.  No issues with my hernia and I'm expecting none so I'm just going to keep walking and look ahead.

Breakfast: Frittata and 20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Pulled pork with pasta salad, beet salad, three slices of ham, and some broccoli salad.

Dinner: Went off the rails and had four pieces of pizza from the night before.

I went for a 30min walk tonight after work and that will be my norm for the next few weeks.  No real exercise is allowed until the six weeks of recovery is done.  I am really going to have to be careful and patient.

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Day 723

First day back to work after the operation.  It was fine and nothing to worry about.  I was a bit concerned that standing for eight hours might have an effect on area of the surgery but it wasn't an issue at all.

Breakfast: Egg frittata with ground turkey, broccoli, and French fries mixed together.  20oz of cold water.

1st snack: Greek yogurt

Lunch: Greek scramble with sausage and two cookies.

2nd snack: cookie

Dinner: Still in vacation mode I guess.  I had four pieces of pizza.  It was a thin crust so not as carb and calorie heavy.

Tomorrow I figure I'll go for a walk as I start to create a program for the next six weeks.  On the weekend I will try to get in some easy exercise as I want to slowly remind my body it's okay to exercise.
