Life

So vacation came and went and I didn't do half the stuff I thought I would. That's ok though as I still enjoyed the time off. Last week I discovered that I still had time I could take off so I'm already planning on more down time. So trying to set some goals for this winter. I want to get back to fencing ( no not the illegal kind) but I need to buy some equipment as my stuff doesn't fit anymore ;( Hopefully tho once I get back into it I will lose some weight again and maybe this time keep it off without too much trouble.

Been thinking about the job again and having some doubts. Not unhappy just not happy. Yes I know it's a job and right now I should just shut up and be glad I have a pay check but......

It's a beautiful sunny day and I just came from a walk and so need to shower.

Vacation

Yep vacation is just around the corner. I will be spending two weeks doing what ever I want. Don't have to set an alarm clock if I don't want to, don't have to be anywhere on time unless it's in my best interest (lunch). I have plans, just not the type that need to be done at or by a certain time. I'm sure I will post here and on Midnite 2 Six, also head to the used book store and possibly go to the casino. If possible I will read at least one book and a bunch of comicbooks and maybe even organize my living space, it surely needs it. Back later.

Where have I..knock knock..been

So haven't been doing my thing lately as I'm walking wounded. I seem to have acquired a bum shoulder and it's throwing (painfully I might add) me off my game. So there I have posted something and it's really about nothing which is to say, everything.

I'm not a doctor Dammit

Ok this is a random post. I was thinking about my other blog Midnite 2 six and suddenly it hit me. I am writing a fictional account of a radio dj who encounters stuff on his nite shift and some people have taken it as real. Not their fault I admit I'm writing as if it is real. But the following thought occurred to me. I don't remember it's origin and I'm sure someone will tell me, but anyway. Maybe that Doogie Houser guy shilling for a deodorant? Here it is, "I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV". If you're wondering what does that have to do with things, well my response to the people thinking my radio dj stories are real, goes something like this. "I'm not a radio DJ, I just write about one". Hey I didn't say it was gonna be mind shattering. insert winking smileyface here.

Movies

So in the last couple of weeks I've seen some movies. A couple of first runs and a couple of dvd features. In the theatre I saw the new Star Trek and then Wolverine. I enjoyed StarTrek as the idea of starting back when the characters hadn't been in Star Fleet at all or not very long was interesting and made for a different approach. I thought the guy who played Kirk did a great job and of course the actor who played Spock was awesome. It was a time travel story sort of but still worked on all levels. Wolverine was also good but in a different way, comic wise we'd seen most of it. The back story on Wolvie is quite a roller coaster ride but he has a lot of baggage. We get to see why he has no memory of his past life but they do take some liberties with the story. Overall I recommend both of these films.
Now over the weekend I saw Memoirs of a Geisha and Sweeny Todd. A drama and a bloody Johnny Depp/Tim Burton gore fest. Geisha was actually ok for a drama as we saw a young girl get sold into slavery by her sick (ill) and poor parents. The idea of course is the girl will be better off than she is with the poverty that surrounds her. The story runs time wise thru WWII and we get a look at a bit of Japanese society and the geisha in particular, hence the title. Then we come to Sweeny Todd, wow. I expected a bloodfest but not all of the gruesome and gory details that unfolded or shall I say splashed across the screen. Depp is once again in his element with a character that he can really bring to life. Yeah if you can take the spurting blood and other gross stuff I highly recommend this film. Oh by the way it's a musical, with Depp and company singing their hearts out.

Whatever happened to my comic books....

First off I still have my comics because I started seriously collecting them when I was an adult. So I didn't have to worry about my mom throwing my comics away. That wasn't the case for my friend and boss Perry. His mom at one point wrote his name in all of his comics so when he was at camp they wouldn't get lost or stolen. Of course later on she went one better (or worse depending) by burning all of them when he was away at college because ' why would he want them?'. So yes I still have my comics, except for the ones I bought as a kid. Those went the way of the dodo when I discovered girls. I was still a geek but girls were important so you had to stop being a "little" kid and grow up. My box of comics count now stands at 35-40 long boxes (these hold almost 350-400 comics) and approx. 20 small boxes ( these hold about 200 comics). When I started collecting as an adult I'd buy them from the 7-11 and so I wasn't real happy with that as you weren't guaranteed that you'd be able to get the next issue. So one nite when we had some people over from work, a woman I knew saw some of my comics on the coffee table ( I didn't care) and said that her boyfriend owned a comic book store. My first thought was, What the heck is a comicbook store? Well that weekend I found out and I never bought another comic at 7-11 again. My discretionary income allowed me to purchase pretty much every comic that was published every week. I did that for almost two years before I no longer had the job that provided that discretionary income so I had to cut back. And I've been cutting back ever since with out much success.

As I was saying.....

For something a bit different check out my other blog Midnite 2 six. It's an experiment or an embarrassment. You decide. An alternate version of my life? Maybe or not. The woman enters the picture and all bets are off.
